Divorce sparked business issues for Reba McEntire

It is not uncommon nowadays for women in Colorado or elsewhere to own their own business enterprises. In the case of country music icon Reba McEntire, she has been a successful breadwinner in her own home for decades. A divorce from her former husband of more than 25 years, however, created complications in McEntire’s daily business operations for which she was not prepared. Any spouse who has basically left his or her financial dealings up to the other spouse or someone else may be able to relate to McEntire’s situation.

For 25 years, a team of people handled her finances

Reba McEntire says that there were basically four people in charge of “The McEntire Empire” for years. While she was making music, performing on stage and raking in the money, her CEO, production manager, business manager and father were handling everything else. McEntire’s husband at the time was also her personal manager. Sadly, McEntire’s father passed away in 2015, and that same year, her CEO and production manager left her business.

A rude awakening was waiting

McEntire’s divorce took place just after her father’s passing. In a recent interview, the country music superstar explained that she was left “holding the bag” on all financial matters in her life but didn’t know what to do with it. She said that she had relied on her team for so long to handle all things finance-and-business-related that she was unaware of even the most basic information, such as how much her water or electric bills were. McEntire said that her divorce forced her to educate herself on her own business operations and finances, and taught her how to handle things on her own.

Sooner than later is always best to learn about finances

There is no way to predict with 100% certainty which Colorado marriages might end in divorce. Those who have thus far relied on others to address business and financial matters in their lives may want to take a hint from Reba McEntire and learn more about their business operations and financial status ahead of time, in case a situation arises down the line where they’ll need to be in charge of it all. In the case of divorce, it is always helpful to consult with an experienced family law attorney in order to protect financial interests and assets when the settlement process begins.
